What is Sedation Dentistry?
Sedation dentistry allows for every patient to receive the dental treatments they require to maintain a beautiful, healthy smile without any of the stress, pain, or anxiety. In fact, your sedation dentist can help you remain completely comfortable throughout even the most advanced treatments by using a variety of sedation dentistry choices.
Here are just some of the various types of sedation dentistry we offer at James Ransdell Dental Care:
Nitrous Oxide
Commonly known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is the most popular form of dental sedative. You just breathe in through a mask placed over your nose, and you very quickly feel a sense of well-being and relaxation. It will reduce any anxiety, and there are practically no side effects at all. It is frequently used by children undergoing dental procedures as well as adults. Best of all, it will wear off within minutes of the mask being taken off and you will be able to resume normal activities almost immediately.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation usually refers to some form of prescription pill designed to relieve anxiety, for example, Valium. It is an excellent option for patients that fear needles. The pill dulls your senses so most patients do not even remember any discomfort, smells, or noises associated with the dental treatment or the dental office itself. In most cases, the patient will take a dose prior to the appointment; our dentists will provide you with specific instructions for your particular case.
